Simple but Effective Visualizations

I came across this chart whilst catching up with my blog reading the other day.  Its part of a post on Christopher Niemanns Blog with New York Times

08chart

It provides a funny look at fads and trends over time, and is very cleverly done, I also appreciated (maybe due to geekiness and lego-love) the most recent post on the blog that shares images of New York in Lego…  It got me thinking onto what else the simple lego bricks can be used to vizualize, so much so I might have to go buy some this evening just for the hell of it

Hi Debs - I also really like Christoph Niemann’s lego comics / models / narratives.

The coffee illustration above is great, it also teeters just on the edge of what we’re able to visually distinguish in a line chart — above seven distinct colors is a rule of thumb I’ve seen in a few places.

For other examples of humor with visual models, check out http://www.thisisindexed.com, Jessica Hagy’s blog.
